Two significant current issues for small diameter concrete pipes are asset ownership and the effects of construction loads. Investigations by leading local authorities and the increased use of camera inspection techniques have revealed that construction loads are causing unacceptable cracking in small diameter (less than 900mm) steel reinforced concrete pipes. This cracking has the potential to significantly shorten the service life of these pipes. The main reason for this is that traditionally the majority of designers have only considered service loads and not construction loads as well.
