PATRICK McGUIRE, Executive Director Concrete Pipe Association of Australasia Spun concrete pipes have been regulated by Standards for over sixty of the more than eighty years they have been manufactured in Australia and New Zealand. Current product standards are based on performance. Standards covering installation contain options, which may offer the potential for significant savings to all stakeholders. A range of packages is available from the Concrete Pipe Association of Australasia which provides designers and specifiers with the appropriate tools, trains them in their use and develops the competency of pipelayers, both newcomers to the industry and those with experience, to recognise and achieve these savings. Field observations indicate that the potential savings are not fully realised and that opportunities still exist "across the board" for industry members and their Industry and Professional Associations to enter into strategic alliances to gain industry wide improvement and benefit.
